In the hills of Strawberry Canyon, home sites are rarely flat. This home's main living areas are on the upper level while the main outdoor space is on the lower level, resulting in a disjointed landscape that receives little use. To unify the two, Verdance proposed a series of patios, decks and terraces — beginning with an intimate screened breakfast patio in the front yard, and continuing with two new wood decks, a connecting staircase, and a play lawn and arbor behind (and below) the residence. A row of ornamental trees screens downhill rooftops without obscuring views of the bay; and strategically placed collections of gingko, redbud and Japanese maple trees provide seasonal interest as well as pleasing vignettes from key viewpoints within the home. This project currently is in design development.
